Need a Laugh?

In one of my school books they had funny things that used to be illegal.

At one time it was Illegal in Pennsylvania to talk loudly at picnics.

It used to be Illegal in New Jersey for a person to delay a homing Pigeon.
It used to be Illegal in Connecticut for mothers to kiss their children on Sunday.

It used to be Illegal in Connecticut for a man to write love letters to a woman whose mother had forbidden him to see her.

It used to be Illegal in Massachusetts to eat peanuts in church.

It used to be Illegal in Massachusetts to keep a pet Dachshund.

It used to be Illegal in Massachusetts to show movies over twenty minutes long.

It used to be Illegal in Massachusetts to add tomatoes to a pot of clam chowder.

It used to be Illegal in Maryland for a person to mistreat an oyster.

It used to be Illegal in South Carolina to go to church without carrying a gun.

It used to be Illegal in Virginia for a person to have a bathtub in his house.

It used to be Illegal in Virginia for a person to pay their taxes in Tobacco.

It used to be Illegal in New York for a person to arrest a dead man for debt.

It used to be Illegal in North Carolina for a person to sing out of tune.

It used to be Illegal in North Carolina to drink water or milk on a train.

It used to be Illegal in Vermont for a person to paint a horse.

It used to be Illegal in Kentucky for a man to buy a coat if his wife did not accompany him to help him choose it.

It used to be Illegal in Kentucky for a married woman to rearrange the furniture without first obtaining her husband's permission.

It used to be Illegal in Tennessee for a person to drive a vehicle unless a notice was in the newspaper in at least a week in advance to warn people.

It used to be Illegal in Tennessee for a person to take a fish off someone else's fishhook.

It used to be Illegal in Louisiana for a person to whistle on Sunday.

It used to be Illegal in Indiana for someone who habitually kissed human beings to wear a mustache.

It used to be Illegal in Maine for a person to lead a bear around a rope.

It used to be Illegal in Maine for a person to walk on the street with his shoelaces untied.

It used to be Illegal in Arkansas to blindfold a cow on a public highway.

It used to be Illegal in Arkansas for a person to set up a Memorial Day lunch counter within half a mile of a confederate cemetery.

It used to be Illegal in Michigan to hitch a Crocodile to a fire hydrant.

It used to be Illegal in Wisconsin to sell a meal for more then 25 cents without including a small piece of cheese.

It used to be Illegal in Oregon for a dead person to serve on a jury.

It used to be Illegal in Kansas for a person to make a show of the eating of snakes.

It used to be Illegal in West Virginia for a person to sneeze on a train.

It used to be Illegal in Nevada for a person to drive a camel.

It used to be Illegal in Nebraska for a woman to curl her daughter's hair unless she had a license issued by the State.

It used to be Illegal in Washington for a person to hunt ducks from a rowboat, unless he was sitting upright and was visible from the waist up.

It used to be Illegal in Idaho to buy a chicken after dark unless you first obtained permission from the sheriff.

It used to be Illegal in Idaho for a person to fish for trout from the back of a giraffe.

It used to be Illegal in Oklahoma for a person to eavesdrop.

It used to be Illegal in Oklahoma for a person to catch whales in Oklahoma Waters.

It used to be Illegal in New Mexico for a person to have a horn on his bicycle that had a non-harmonious sound.

It used to be Illegal in Hawaii for a person to put pennies in his ears.

  2. Some of those laws are sort of good ideas! The funny part is, they passed the laws because somebody was doing it!
